@ryan@hachyderm.io check out reuse stores and scrap places. Sometimes you can get lucky and get a bunch of assorted ones without keys for like $1 each. Also check eBay for keyless padlocks and cylinders. You can get locks that are *way* more interesting than Master for a few bucks plus shipping.
Check out https://lpubelts.com for locks listed in progressive difficulty. For early practice, I'd recommend the Master (No. 1-8), Brinks 164, Master 140, Abus Titalium.
