@zazzoo@mstdn.ca my partner had been there before in the 90's, and she said that in comparison, the availability of goods was much better back then.
We stayed on a all inclusive where the Cuban National Judo Team was also staying in preparation for some competition, and the food availability was very limited in variety, but the hotel cooks tried very hard.
The bar on the other hand was well stock with liquor and were very generous on their pours. Mint, lime, juice, other mixers weren't available often

@kaosk@mastodon.social Yeah, that's more like the way I remember. There were shortages for sure. In the 1990s there were rolling blackouts, and the Varadero peninsula was still mostly an oil refinery rather than foreign-owned hotels.
