@SallyStrange@eldritch.cafe @impermanen_@zirk.us the reason they withhold it is because it's never been tested on a cohort younger than 50. That's it. At this point it seems so, so arbitrary. I am truly hoping someone is testing it on younger folks somewhere so they can strike down the restriction, as there appears to be so many benefits. I also know two people that were far younger than 50 that had shingles.

@womp@mstdn.ca @SallyStrange@eldritch.cafe @impermanen_@zirk.us as someone who got shingles before age 30, and it still took two years to convince doctors I should get vaccinated after that... Please get the vaccine if you can. Shingles sucks.

  • @womp@mstdn.ca @SallyStrange@eldritch.cafe @impermanen_@zirk.us In both the United States and Canada; shingles vaccination is approved for younger adults who are at elevated risk of the virus reactivating. I know this because celiac puts me at elevated risk, so I got my shingles vaccine five years ago now. (Because I live in the United States, I did have to argue my health insurance carrier into covering it.)
