One thing about #Mastodon toots: There's public & then there's public. Oh & did I mention public? And then of course public & etc. Public is not very different from pasting a sign up on the side of the street. It may end up on the front page of the NYT. That's what public means. No one has to be able to login to jack shit to see it. You can't prevent people from seeing it. That's not up to you. It may be indexed by search engines. That's what public means. (Generally speaking that's what it means, just not here, based on your settings.) Tags require public posts (whatever that works out to mean). The other night I watched someone I follow post a very long #Monsterdon watch thread that was followers-only. Of course, none of those toots showed up under the tag. Maybe that's not how tags should work, but it's how they do work. 1/2 #Fediverse
