Extremely niche decades-delayed Animorphs shower thought: If the Chee had enough Pemalite DNA to meld their essence with wolves to create dogs, surely they have enough to create male and female clone embryos. Then all you gotta do is find two or more morph-capable Andalites or humans who want to be eternally-happy dog people, and have them acquire the Pembryos, then get stuck in morph. Ta-da! You've just restored a sentient species that's been dead for a hundred thousand years.
