People were saying it was bad when Apple did it. That's part of why more tech focused people flocked to Android. And so long as Android allowed us to do as we pleased, we could oppose walled gardens in part by not participating in any.
But the phone market has collapsed into 2 OSes, and both of them are going to be walled gardens, so there's nowhere to retreat back to now. All options are gone, so the only avenue forward is to make aa lot of noise.
