13/10 sailing today. 10ish knots of wind out of the southwest most of the day, with a few gusts of 15. It was the first time I was actually warm on Lake Superior. We did about 30 miles. 15 reaching, then beating back to the start. I also replaced the aged tachometer in the boat with a fancy VDO tach that includes an hour meter. Figuring out the wiring was annoying but I even got the backlight working with the original Yanmar instrument panel light switch. And I put the first hour on the inboard that officially counts. The motor is 40 years old, I'm sure it has seen a few more hours than I've logged ;-), but now I can start following something like a proper hour-based maintenance schedule at least. Everything feels like it is finally coming together with this boat. Which seems about right, since I'm shopping for something a little bigger. But if I am 'stuck' with this one for a few years I will not be sad at all...it really does sail well, and I've rebuilt about everything on it so am pretty confident in its ability to handle bad weather. #sailing #lakesuperior #duluthmn #s279

@reverseics@infosec.exchange talking about sailing. your sailing club/marina do they use rfid, uhf rfid, nfc, qrcodes or nothing to monitor who goes through the gate/down the ramp and then on to the water or currently nothing? do they get worried when a boat isn't back yet or when a sailor isn't back yet i.e. do they care more about man overboard or oh rodents the yacht sank? My sailor/boat tracker thingy has been now been used irl 3 times for regattas & 4 "dress rehersals" with no major problems (other than they insist on using a 7" screen not my recommended 15"+ screen) and has a test in the middle of nowhere on a beach in a fortnight for another regatta so time to genericicize it for other hardware combos and levels of concern to release it publicly
