@jrootham@mastodon.acm.org @PavelASamsonov@mastodon.social Oh I agree about 100,000-year timelines, that's longer than all of recorded human history.
It's a lot of years ago now, but I don't think I actually got any formal education on radiation physics until university.
It also doesn't need to be totally lost, just removed enough from the general population that someone decides to explore in that spot.
Also, I don't think it takes any special technology to dig a really deep hole- The technology's in speed and safety
