Good Morning #Canada
Happy #CanadaDay to Canadians who love our country because of it's natural beauty, because we punch above our weight class on the world stage, and in spite of flaws which sometimes threaten to derail our future. Besides flag waiving & poutine eating, today's a good day to reflect on major turning points in our history. I'll share 2 that I think are important. Although there are hundreds of events that qualify, IMO these are significant.

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III on October 7th, 1763, acknowledging Indigenous rights to vast territories in North America and forbade all new settlements west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Any use of these lands had to be negotiated by treaty. It has been called the "Indian Magna Carta" and was included in our Constitution. But it wasn't perfect, as this analysis points out. #IndigenousRights #Colonialism https://activehistory.ca/blog/2013/10/04/the-royal-proclamation-and-colonial-hocus-pocus-a-learned-treatise/
