@syntaxseed@phpc.social Point taken, and I wish embellishment to work the refs wasn't baked in the way it is. But, fans of sports where the athletes wear protective equipment from head to toe - who haven't been aggressively kicked by someone their size or bigger, running at full speed, wearing a hard & cleated boot should pause before judging what is or isn't fake (even when it is being hurt as opposed to being injured). The instant & intense pain, and accompanying dead leg are ofter real & significant.

    @dcdeejay@mastodon.online Oh I have 0 doubt that injuries in soccer are real & brutal - my son has been in a soccer academy for the last 2 years. But when the slowmo replay shows no contact & the player pops back to their feet the second the ref stops looking - it's embarrassing. You'd think they'd be wary of desensitizing the refs so actual injuries don't get overlooked.
