Seeing the crash clock paper being reviewed and published kind of makes it more terrifying. Its being talked about by sundogplanets on mastodon dot social. I'm not going to link to it, I find it incredibly depressing. The tl/dr is if you can knock space x's hq off line for three days the world ends. The thought experiment of what follows if Kessler syndrome happens is depressing. Basically the part of our civilization I live in holds together on the fact we know where everything is always and can send a message anywhere functionally instantly. Once you start breaking that things fall apart quickly. excuse me while I go download a Wikipedia backup again.

    @mindpersephone@spookygirl.boo I haven't even read the paper or heard mention of it. But your description was more than enough for me to figure out the disaster. That would be horrific under normal circumstances. That it's in the hands of a with the Musk attention to quality details is even worse.
