Euforia Un poema en español. I don't know if I'll be writing an English version, so in the meantime here's a machine translation by Kagi Translate, which while not great, captures the content pretty well. In the dark days before, I wanted to conform. Joy was distant, so far out of my reach. In those misty days, the anxieties increased. I didn't have peace of soul, questions filled me. Until I cracked like an egg. In the luminous days after, jubilation finds me...

When you go gender neutral in English, it's a barely noticeable they/them. When you go gender neutral in Spanish, it's seriously in your face. From an invite I'm creating. Convivencia de Ambiente El primer encuentro de una convivencia periódica para mujerxs, muxes, mujerxs trans, hombrxs trans, no binarixs, agénerxs, intersexualxs, y algunas personxs fuera del patriarcado. No, I'm not sure that "algunas" shouldn't have an "x". My hacked “AI” grammar che...

¿Estoy triste? Transitamos cuando podemos. Todo tiempo tiene dolores. #p...

I'm writing poetry in Spanish, and I suddenly realized I could use my translator to help me with the scansion. I had no sooner typed the instructions [report the number of syllables in the Spanish] than I realized my folly. And sure enough.

Yesterday's writing prompt at my writer's group was "passages". There are so many stories revolve around passages; wormholes, wardrobes, ships.... You name it. And I didn't want to write something that had been used a million times. So I spent a long time looking at the various definitions (did you know there's one related to dressage?), and this is what came out. Safe Passage It took me nearly a year to negotiate safe passage. I was lucky, some people wait decades,...

マリウス . The Day WhatsApp Goes Dark https://xn--gckvb8fzb.com/the-day-whatsapp-goes-dark/ It would absolutely be a disaster. Every business in Mexico has a WhatsApp account. It doesn't matter whether it's Walmart, or the local dog groomer. It's customer support. It's how you order tickets to events. It's how you get alerts when your blouse gets mended. It's how you schedule appointments with, show photos of your issues with, and get your prescriptions from, your doctor....

Props to Wise money transfer. This is brilliant. I was on a call with my daughter and realized I needed to pay a bill to someone, so I brought up Wise and got this warning.

There seem to be some font rendering issues, but so far so good. I'm very curious if the “Tell me what I can cook given what I have" algorithm still works.

@peribotsarah@babka.social @WTPress@wandering.shop I have read his collection of short science fiction stories and it is amazing. It is dark and Croatian, and definitely worth the read. I'm very curious what this is going to be like.

❝ Technically, the reality lands more modestly. Large language models are next-token prediction systems. Their outputs are the product of statistical probability distributions learned from training data, not reasoning in the way humans mean it, not independent judgment, and least of all, not the kind of moral intuition we'd ascribe to a senior experienced professional. The gap between what the constitution describes and what the underlying architecture actually does isn’t a minor discrepancy...

TFW your young (whatever that means in this context) vampire wife from an arranged marriage commits a murder suicide with her two "children" and the police are investigating but you're working with you team to solve a video playback bug caused by adding accounts with a creation date in the 1950s, but it's hard to concentrate because two of your teammates are dancing a (very good) jig while playing guitars in thongs. (SGW and Eric, I didn't know you had it in you). #dreams

FaceTime rings. Daughter hangs up before I can answer. I text her. "Where'd you go?" After a minute she calls back. "Sorry, I had something I wanted to talk out, but I decided to talk to my sister instead. But she didn't answer so I'm calling you back." "Well now I know where I am in the priority list!" "I mean, you were first. I just changed my mind!" Not sure if I won that one or not.

Phrase of the night. ¿Ontas? Wanna hook up? "A syncopated contraction of the Spanish phrase '¿dónde estás?' (where are you?), which underwent phonetic reduction and semantic shift in Mexican internet slang to become a euphemism for a 'booty call'."

I have seen so many “AI”-generated memes about the Reflecting Pool that they've lost their potency. When you had to be able to draw a cartoon, or at least do some Photoshop work to make these things happen, they had a little more punch. Are we nearing the end of the golden age of memes? Is it time to return to textual humor? I have posted the memes that were in the “AI” and which you were probably thinking were original Forgive me they were too easy so fake with no soul #LLM #memes #AI

I walked into a bar this afternoon (where I have a Spanish taller (workshop)), and there was a nice medium sized husky lying in the middle of the floor. So I asked the bartender what its name was. "No tiene un nombre." It didn't have a name. It was just a stray. In fact, a bit later, another stray came to join our class. But, they do have a name of sorts. They call them "Solo vino". "He just came."

RE: https://newsie.social/@servelan/116762822225704677 This is what happens when the people in charge think that experts aren't needed, and everything is simple. A rational person, put in charge of any of these negotiations or government agencies would be terrified by their own inexpertise. These folks don't have any idea what they don't know. They don't think it's necessary to know anything. Everything can be solved in a few weeks by an amateur.
