@geonz@mathstodon.xyz Even if purchasing is owning, piracy still isn't stealing.
Stealing means depraving someone of their property. That's not the case with software piracy, nobody is losing anything if the pirate never intended to buy the game anyway.

@Tijn@dosgame.club @geonz@mathstodon.xyz Especially if the pirater e.g. pirated a console ROM, and owns neither a TV nor the console. Obviously this conversely means that the game console companies could actually make money by selling emulators and ROMs, like, at least for their previous generation consoles. It's not like they're even producing the things anyway. To some extent even Nintendo has figured it out (Virtual Console), except not quite.
