Like, yeah it’s bad. There’s less money in it for artists than there’s probably ever been. There’s less of a way in for artists who don’t have rich parents than there’s probably ever been. These are all problems, but shady marketing practices in music are just about one of the oldest traits of the industry. I dunno, dawg, I just think calling bands “psyops” or “industry plants” is kinda cringe, and kinda placing the blame for the industry’s problems at the feet of the exact wrong people.

    Popular rock band, Geese or whoever’s fielding the “industry plant” accusations this week, are not the villains. The CEO’s of streaming companies, and major record labels, and major ticketing companies, AI companies, and social media platforms are the villains. Everyone else is honestly just fighting for the increasingly tiny scraps of an already-eaten pie, and until *that’s* been addressed, like, no shit, we’ll never really see organic discovery outside local music scenes and niche forums.
