I’m struggling to understand how finding music inorganically through social media marketing is any different that finding it through radio or MTV or whatever. Like, I don’t understand why people are so scandalized by the fact that music promotion companies are gaming social algorithms? Like… of course they are? Would they be doing their job if they weren’t? I dunno, it feels like bullshit to blame artists for this and not the larger infrastructure of the music and social media industries.
