The managers would call it "ensuring return of investment". Depending on the amount of influence it might even be easier to convince all the other parties who interface with libwacom that, from now on, they have to also add a new "libgraphpen" or something similar; moving everything except wacom devices to a new library.

A definitive statement for clarity here: that is not the case. The naming is classic developer naming (influenced by the Wacom engineers creating or being involved with these repos from early on). Wacom was synonymous for graphics tablets in the same way as e.g. Australians say esky instead of ice box.
