@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org The contempt for the users freedom isn't limited to patent concerns when it comes to video codec acceleration (if that was the concern, most of the peripheral software would be free software, aside from the video acceleration, which you can do just fine without). Rather the concern is that the user could have software freedom - which is why for example AMD has put in the software license of the "AMD-GPU-PRO-EULA", the following text; "You may not: … use, modify and/or distribute any of the Software so that any part becomes subject to a Free Software License"
