@_elena@mastodon.social I guess I need another coffee because I don't understand how can a Bluesky relay have any impact on a platform that is "owned, run, and hosted in Europe."

@aleksei@social.fakeplastictrees.ee @_elena@mastodon.social because that's just marketing it seems. From what I've been told their API (app view) just proxies bluesky's API, so when bluesky's infrastructure had a rate limit trip (one that's designed to protect against spam & network abuse), that data stopped flowing to the rest of Bluesky's infrastructure (and anyone else who depended on their infrastructure). Usually this isn't a problem, and dropping a message to various network operators gets the problem fixed in no time at all.

@aleksei@social.fakeplastictrees.ee @_elena@mastodon.social The marketing is backfiring. They never had an infrastructure independent of Bluesky. It is possible—Blacksky and Eurosky are showing how it’s done. The WSocial folks were just a little too busy with their PR tour to worry about the technical details. :)
