Kasuga-no-tsubone (春日局 1579-1643) chose Keishō-in to become Iemitsu's concubine, and the rest is history. As go-between for the shōgunate and the imperial court, Lady Kasuga was one of the most prominent and powerful politicians of her time, one of Iemitsu's 3 closest aides.

  • Keishō-in is enshrined at Imamiya-jina, close-by where her father once had his grocery store. Later in life she revived the shrine (in a ruinous state after a century of neglect) and many other religious sites in Kyōto. She never managed to return, even briefly, to her hometown.
