If you let people wander off from the scene, you have to repeat exposition, and nobody wants that.
Postal worker, crisco zoologist, & cop show up in suits. Sheriff, geologist, & chef join the party. This is slightly more plausible than most Call of Cthulhu parties.
UFO pod prop is surprisingly good. Like, did they spend MONEY on this movie‽ Why?
