@moonleay@mastodon.de No, but the downloads are spread out over a long period of time through our update client using a 6 hour interval for update checks. It ends up being 6-12 hours for idle devices due to how job scheduling works on Android. It tries not to wake up an idle device for anything and is allowed to delay the 6 hour interval by up to around 6 hours based on the default slack time. We can control we release updates per-device-model to stagger load and how we balance the load across servers.

@moonleay@mastodon.de Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, Norway and Sweden use Amsterdam along with the microstates in those regions. However, Amsterdam temporarily lacks IPv6 unlike all the other locations. That means all those countries temporarily use Frankfurt for IPv6 which is part of why it's so high. We could use London as the IPv6 location for some of those to split it up more but London is 10Gbps compared to Amsterdam being 20Gbps and Frankfurt 50Gbps. We have more than enough anyway.
