I just took a look at our electrical consumption the last ~10 days. Being able to run ACs to keep the flat in an acceptable temperature range is definitively something that requires the privilege of having "surplus" money.
Not only you need to be able to buy them at some point, you also need to be able to pay the electrical bill, and that isn't to underestimate. This month our bill will be probably around 60EUR higher than normal, just because we ran the ACs.
Yes, better ACs - that cost even more upfront - or a better insulated flat would probably have reduced the electrical consumption, but to have that ...
