@offby1@wandering.shop Hey, you're not holding it wrong, but the expectation doesn't quite match what Mastodon's search actually does. ES doesn't index every post that's passed through your instance. It only searches: - Your own posts - Posts you've favorited - Posts you've bookmarked - Posts that mention you** - Public posts by accounts that have opted into being searchable (the "Appear in search results" toggle in preferences) - Account display names, usernames, and bios It deliberately does *not* let you search arbitrary strings across everything you've scrolled past. That's by design, not a bug. So if you're searching for a post you saw in your timeline but didn't fav/bookmark/boost, and the author hasn't opted into search indexing, it won't come up.
