@kalayo@hol.ogra.ph GraphicsMagick can be used on the command line to do operations like compression and resizing! It does a lot as far as I know, and is on the open-slopware list of "use this instead of ImageMagick" so I think it's unslopped.
Apparently vips is also a good one to use but I'm not familiar with it!
