What happens when parties start using list candidature, that are accountable to no constituency but the party leader, as a mechanism for patronage?
What happens when we have the situation of rich people functionally buying seats in parliament / caucus / cabinet?
What does more Proportional Representation without those above mentioned caveats look like?

Perhaps a rule that the parties' lists must be from candidates that ran but did not win, and appointed in the order of most votes cast for them? Just an idea. Ranked ballots would be a good start. @evdelen@mstdn.ca @ChrisInToots@thecanadian.social

@evdelen@mstdn.ca I'm not a fan of closed list systems that you describe due to the concerns that you mention, and Fair Vote Canada doesn't endorse them. The systems that Fair Vote Canada recommends are all open-list, such as STV, which I see that you approve of, or open-list MMP.
