I honestly like Private Internet Access, PIA, in part because they occasionally have insane discounts, and I've found their support surprisingly responsive for a service I paid less than $3 a month for. They also seem to be a favorite of the sorts of hackers/tinkerers I follow (proxmox/unraid enthusiasts). A free close second with a slightly different use case is tailscale - it really depends if you are using a VPN for privacy, or location shifting, or secure access to your resources. PIA for the first two, tailscale for the latter!
