@dfx4509b @lydiaschoch@mastodon.social These days a FB page is a million miles away from a Mastodon profile in terms of layout, options and presentation - but also Mastodon has essentially zero traction in PH. If you want traffic and conversions, the only free way is Facebook. But my main point (aside from western privilege) was that you go where your customers are, and in PH, that's FB. A huge slice of the population has no idea how to use the browser app on their phone, but they sure as hell know how to use the FB app - and the phone companies offer free data to FB domains as well (no doubt getting a kickback from Meta). Meta's claws are deep into the Philippines - and many other developing countries. Ironically Meta closed all my accounts without warning for reasons unknown, so I'm now totally reliant on my wife for local business searches. But that's life and there's absolutely nothing I can do to change any of it. Certainly no point in going to businesses in my city and telling them they should have a proper website.

@drewph@ieji.de @dfx4509b @lydiaschoch@mastodon.social Yes, in many countries, the Meta properties are the Internet via their apps. It's unfortunate, but there's no solution at this time. I also detest cities and consulates using those properties, and they COULD afford a site.
