@dgoldsmith@mastodon.social eff@mastodon.social The reason why the surveillance people win: The opposition wants everyone to believe that kids will wither and die if they're not hooked up to the all-protecting, all-giving central computer. Without social media they "won't be prepared for the future"! That's right, all people born before 2015 only survived by some miraculous stroke of luck. (Meanwhile, as this "debate" rages, toys with Internet-connected microphones are suddenly deemed socially acceptable.) Here's the thing: Parents who let their kids "play on the info superhighway" are negligent. That is what needs correcting. But instead, we are fighting over whether kids should stay in the pews or be shuttled off to Sunday school – two different visions of worshiping a techno-god.

@dgoldsmith@mastodon.social All this will do, is just drive kids and young adults who want unmonitored speech to associate with cybercriminals. And the rich, who can bribe their way out of being caught with illicit devices. The heroes of our kids will become criminals, billionaires, and the mafia. Only they will have true freedom. Ours will be fake and everyone will know it.

@dgoldsmith@mastodon.social The responsibility here lies with parents not legislators. Freedom of Speech is our most important product. If parents can be held accountable for what there kids do with a gun it just stands to reason . .
