@dgoldsmith@mastodon.social eff@mastodon.social The reason why the surveillance people win: The opposition wants everyone to believe that kids will wither and die if they're not hooked up to the all-protecting, all-giving central computer. Without social media they "won't be prepared for the future"! That's right, all people born before 2015 only survived by some miraculous stroke of luck. (Meanwhile, as this "debate" rages, toys with Internet-connected microphones are suddenly deemed socially acceptable.) Here's the thing: Parents who let their kids "play on the info superhighway" are negligent. That is what needs correcting. But instead, we are fighting over whether kids should stay in the pews or be shuttled off to Sunday school – two different visions of worshiping a techno-god.
