Sometimes it wasn't even that my wording was bad or unclear. For example, I did a thread years ago, like several years pre-COVID, about how to spend your charity budget (if you have one) to make the most positive impact per dollar spent. A lot of it boiled down to "find reputable charities that either give directly to people in impoverished parts of the world, or prevent/treat disease in those places". It seemed pretty straightforward to me.

  • As part of that thread, I said something about deworming impoverished people. If you follow news about parasites, disease in the global south, or even just the sorts of challenges generally faced by people in places that don't have reliable infrastructure for clean water, this should not surprise you. Parasitic worms are a huge problem in much of the world. But people got really, really mad. People screenshotted and quoted my post to mock me. There was a whole harassment campaign. I got threats.
