#WritersCoffeeClub May 26: In what ways does your work defy expectation?
I'm not sure what people expect from my work, so I can't be 100% sure. But my guesses are that it deviates from "standard" urban fantasy by:
1) not having any supernatural creatures
2) having the City itself be a character with spoken lines
3) being an ensemble story with multiple close-3rd POVs instead of the usual 1st person

#WritersCoffeeClub May 27: Do you read outside of the genre you write? Sure. I recently read _Treasure Island_, which is pretty far from both "urban" and "fantasy". There's a very brief visit to Bristol, and there are no fantastic elements whatsoever. (Romanticized, sure, but not fantastic.) (Honestly, I need to read more _inside_ urban fantasy, and especially more recent stuff. I plan to once I finish my draft, while I let it sit for a few months before editing.)
