#WritersCoffeeClub June 18: Talk about a time fiction shocked you. I was 12 years old when _The Empire Strikes Back_ came out, and I forget if my parents took me to see it on opening day or if it was a few days later. But this was pre-internet, so the surprise was not spoiled for me. So, not only was that a pretty big plot twist, but also I was too young and innocent to have any idea that something like that might be coming. I cannot possibly overstate how much it shook me.

#WritersCoffeeClub June 19: What’s your opinion on writing which seeks to imitate a cinematic style? If someone wants to watch a movie or TV show, they'll just go and watch that. If someone picked up a book, they should hopefully be looking for a _literary_ (by which I mean "told in words, not images") experience. Verbal/literary storytelling should seek to do the things it can do that visual storytelling can't. Trying to emulate something that it isn't is a bad idea. 1/3
