Two anecdata:
1- I remember as a small child (6? 7?) being utterly flummoxed by trying to pick up peas from my rice bowl because I knew how to use chopsticks but had internalised not actually picking up the bowl from the table in order to eat from it.
2- The first time I ever ate take-away food, I was probably about fifteen, at a friend’s house. The friend and friend’s parents were completely shocked when I casually picked up and used the free bamboo chopsticks, and immediately shuffled the forks off the table and heroically attempted to do likewise.
