I suspect apolitical abstention is the more depressed sibling of the apolicity imposed by voting. Voting is a false image of power and agency and even that abject Spectacle fails to appeal to the apolitical abstentee. What then does that tell us about political life? Like, instead of blaming people for not voting for 99% Hitler, why don&#39;t you spend a bajillion pesos into making 15% Hitler winnable? Why is it always the apolitical abstentee&#39;s fault and not the liberal opposition?

@abolisyonista@ni.hil.ist People who vote are at least making an effort to participate. Abstainers--you don't know if they're protesting by not voting or afraid to go on record or just indifferent to the whole thing. What they are saying is they will stand aside while others act.

@abolisyonista@ni.hil.ist it's intrinsic to colonial languages that have some version of "might makes right"/"punish weakness" embedded. The two logics lead to "kiss up"/"punch down" by default, especially when combined with hierarchy (also embedded). Victim blaming is inevitable within the colonized communication medium that is these shit-ass languages.
