after having a quick look i noticed: i bought the wrong cable 🤦♂️ need a forward breakout cable, not a reverse one.
already ordered a new one. so i suppose there will be more downtime next week

there will be another problem, though: PCI passthrough of the card to my TrueNAS VM. i *did* try this even though the drives weren't showing up, but it ended up not working: the VM wouldn't boot past the qemu bootloader, and i have no clue why... well, future me problem i suppose
