Setting up a desktop system today for some remote work and in the 30mins before installing an adblocker I see how intolerable the www has become. On several sites the content was swarmed upon to the point of being almost imperceptible. Packs of autoplaying attention-leeches, popups of video with over-gesticulating wow-faced cruft, floating footers swollen with ticker-tape inanity. The CO2e & cognitive-load savings provided by a simple extension like uBlockOrigin are not to be underestimated.

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social Yeah, it's absolutely disgusting--we've been fully infested by money-grubbing maggots. I just can't tolerate advertisements any longer--it's like someone you never liked in the first place just being aggressively stupid at you in public. Still spreading the gospel of ublock origin to everyone I know.

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social I built a free, open-source Chromium reader extension that eliminates all distractions, which works great with uBlock. I use it with the Helium browser. Give it a whirl! https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/library-reader/mjpdekbomfibfifomicibenpofdkkacc

  • @JulianOliver@mastodon.social Same feeling here, every time I install/use a new PC. Now my workflow is: 1. installing a default clean browser (once Firefox, now Librewolf, to avoid slop), 2. be sure to have uBlock Origin. Then all the rest of the clean up and setup.

  • @JulianOliver@mastodon.social Even Chromium based browsers work better with uBlock Origin Lite. Firefox deserves uBlock Origin and a lot of additional configure to refuse acceptance of unwanted content 😟
