Bob Scheifler announces the first release of the X Window System:

Forty-two years later, I'm still running X11 daily on Slackware.

@r1w1s1 I remember those days of trying to figure out the fat X11 textbooks (fairly clearly written I felt, in comparison to the current standard) with fondness. what the heck is the Wayland fracas all about? it's tempting to stick with the old ways
