I've just been doing mine in whatever text editor's around, but back to Dan's point, it was a bit more fun when everyone I knew had a MySpace or a Livejournal or a Gaia Online page full of goofy shit

"As an amateur website maker I want to follow cryptic instructions on a website, open a terminal, download gigabyte of libraries, expose myself to supply-chain attacks, and still need decent understanding of HTML so that I don't have to copy-paste some boilerplate code across the pages of my site"
