WTF MS Office??? I have Powerpoint* files which looked perfectly fine last week and all of a sudden, spaces have disappeared from headings! I've had to change the font theme for it to work again, but apparently I cannot use Work Sans SemiBold anymore! *: My employer's choice, not mine! #microsoft #office #powerpoint #bug #enshittification

@neil my family entered the multimedia age in the mid nineties when we bought a CD-ROM player and upgraded the Mac LC III from 4MB RAM to a whopping 8MB, which turned out to be just enough to run Escape Velocity or Worms.

I'm often surprised by how British and Dutch urban planning can be so similar on some points (neighbourhoods of terraced or semi-detached houses, town centres that are half-street, half-mall), but the fact that English town centres are often surrounded by a moat of car parks and hostile to bicycles and pedestrians makes a big difference.

What I hate with my employer's embrace of AI is not only that we're robbing them from opportunities to learn, but we're also robbing them from the joy of learning. What a sad sad effect from something that is supposedly an unavoidable neutral tool that we must teach our students to use.

I seriously consider resigning – that might be the only ethical choice I have rather than stay in a college that has decided to go full-in on AI. But teaching jobs are scarce (and I might have the same issues elsewhere). And moving to industry would mean working in tech, and even there I probably wouldn't be able to find anything senior. #jobs #getfedihired

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/116397070356098122 One of the comments on this article is: > 'at a certain point, don't you bascially just have to throw your hands up in the air and say, "You're only fucking yourselves by not learning [except how to use AI]?"' The problem is, that according to my boss, learning how to use AI is what we should be teaching.

One thing I particularly hate about synthetic text extruders is their seemingly amazing ability to "square the circle" of impossible briefs that have conflicting requirements, instead of pushing back. We create (learning) experiences that seem to balance the needs of everyone, but once you start looking in a little bit of detail they fall apart under the weight of their contradictions. #LLM #StochasticParrots #education

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/116426136253346140 The corollary (which I am seeing everyday) is: Imagine being a lecturer and thinking there's no artistry in developing, adjusting, and delivering your classes.

An #introduction: I'm Raph, and I teach IT related stuff in a business school that decided to fully embrace (generative) AI. I am seeing first-hand the damage that synthetic text extruders are doing and how inappropriate our response is. I have been on the fediverse on and off for a while but I am now looking to engage with people who share the same concerns. #education #onderwijs
