She'd been publicly outed in 1962 in a sensationalized court case in Toronto.

1974, Geraldine Carmichael is outed on KABC by Dick Carlson (Tucker's dad) 1976, Renée Richards is outed on KFMB by Dick Carlson. The next year she successfully sues to play competitive tennis as a woman; media uproar ensues. Carlson later criticized the media's slavering stance, and his participation in it, saying, "There are so many other things I think are important and interesting but the media can be counted on to do handstands over that kind of scandal and sexual sensation."
