2012 Stacie Laughton becomes the first state legislator in the US elected while out and transgender. Political operatives then unearth a criminal conviction in her past and she resigned before being seated. (She was re-elected in 2020, and then re-arrested in 2022.)
2018 Danica Roem becomes the first state legislator in the US who was elected and served while out and trangender. Media depictions predictably polarized.

1870 Stella Boulton and Fanny Park arrested by the Bow Street Runners and charged with buggery, conspiracy to commit buggery, and (essentially) incitement to buggery. The two were known to go out in feminine clothing and had been under police surveillance for a year. Their upper middle class background made their story salacious in all the papers of the time, and also probably contributed to their eventual release (after more than a year of jail and significant police abuse)
