I don't remember all those shops being there, and when I was working in Canterbury, I walked along the city wall every day, so I would have noticed. (I left Canterbury in 2003.)
I realise I literally have no idea what was there before. (The photo is actually at "Rose Square".)
ETA: the oldest Street View I can find is 2018, which is the same date as the newspaper photo, so that was no help.

@nxskok@cupoftea.social I have the same problem. I don't remember what was on the streets around where I grew up (Sturry side) or before all the new homes on the top end of town nearest the golf club... It's all a mystery Wasn't a fan of it then. Don't mind a very occasional visit now but I'd never move back.
