Okay, so can someone please explain to me why keepandroidopen.com is suddenly trending all of a sudden again? The site claims that the only statement made about allowing users to sideload was an obscure tweet, but I think this official Google blog post from November 12 of 2025 would disagree. It's a lot of generic corprit BS, talking about why they want to implement it, but it explicitly mentions implementing a solution for hobbiests and smaller devs, so...what exactly is the problem here? Yeah, sure, it would be great if this just didn't exist at all, but Google is at least giving us a couple pathways around it. Is it because there will be no more FDroid/Apptoid/etc? I don't get this. https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/11/android-developer-verification-early.html

  • @TheQuinbox@dragonscave.space It would annoy me to miss out on Obtainium, but besides browsing more unknown apps I don't heavily rely on F-Droid and such. But I get why people would so, yeah. No idea. At this point I'm just going to wait until it's actually happening, speculating about everything won't help either. I get that F-Droid and such can't do that though.
