the thing about dysphoria is that its so pervasive you develop coping strategies just to survive. most of them minimize how much youre aware of your dysphoria. basically you just have to block it out in order to talk to people, feed yourself, go to work, pay rent.
so somewhat ironically, people suffering from dysphoria are rarely aware of just *how much* dysphoria we are actually operating under.
spoiler: it's way, way more than we think.

tangent: what would the unit of measure for dysphoria be called? tempting to name it, like other metrics, after pioneers in the field, but that seems kind of mean, because we're inevitably talking about trans people, and what tran would want to become the measure of our trauma? one alternative, i suppose, is going kind of cutesy: fourteen icks of dysphoria. but that way leads to minimization. even one million icks seems like a speedbump, not a threat to life (which it is) #DysphoriaMetrics
