Has anyone made a beginner tutorial on how to use a tiling window manager?
I have installed many desktop enviroments and window managers in virtual machines. The stacking ones I can usually figure out. On the other hand, for tiling window managers I constently get stuck on questions like
a) How do I open a terminal?
b) How do I open applications?
c) How do I switch between open applications?
None of the tiling window managers I've looked at have documentation that helps. For example, Sway starts by talking about installing it, and then immediately jumps to the advanced topic of editing the config files to suite your preference. Before I can edit the config files, I'd first have to know how to open a terminal or file manager, navigate to the config folder, and open the relevant file.
It isn't just sway: it seems every tiling window manager assumes the user is already knowledgeable about how to use tiling window managers, and the only thing they need to explain are the specifics of this particular one.
You may point out that many stacking WMs don't explain the basics either, but maybe they should. I know how to use a stacking window manager because I grew up with Windows 95, but people who grew up with iPhones might not know things like "you can use the mouse to click and drag the title bar to reposition a window."
