@quinn@social.circl.lu There's a Youtuber in my shorts who keeps showing up. He is a landscaper and does paid and free clearing of gardens. His videos seem to be all HOA weirdos showing up to harass him or his client for him doing their lawn. I'm British and the idea of your neighbours being able to fine you or put a lien on your house for garden state is bizarre. As is the idea your neighbours could harass tradespeople working for you (paid or free). I learned about HOAs from this guy...

@NatalyaD@disabled.social @quinn@social.circl.lu In the USA we hate government so much we'd rather create punitive contracts between our neighbors than incorporate as a city to enforce the same measures. This is because if it becomes a criminal matter, you will be shot on sight, whereas civil matters will merely bankrupt you.

@NatalyaD@disabled.social @quinn@social.circl.lu It is an extremely strange world. I worked for a property company that managed both Homeowners Associations and Condominium Associations. It was surreal. The Association would enact rules, demand that we enforce these rules, and then shout at us, telling us that we were the equivalent of a jack-booted gestapo squad, because we enforced the silly rules. The people who live in these places are nuts.
