Yes, if you can afford one, an external speaker or two are almost always better, if the tv itself can connect to them. That requires an HDMI ARC or eARC out port and the right sort of active speakers.
My point was that if you don't have, can't afford, or know how to use external speakers, or your tv is not designed easily to connect to them, you can't watch your new tv at all.

That was kinda part of the "smart TV's have good enough speakers" thing. If you watch TV using an external box, there is generally a range of ways to connect speakers to it. Passive speakers are not exactly common these days...
