@gary_alderson@infosec.exchange @pthane@toot.wales @HI_Greens@mastodon.scot Fed Ex comes to your house and business every day to check if you have something going out? Nope, they only come after your paid for the trip. FedEx uses their own delivery drivers and trucks? Nope, independent contractors do the majority of the last mile deliveries that aren’t subbed to USPS. The lack of oversight is what generates the profit.

  • @passwordsarehard4@mastodon.social @gary_alderson@infosec.exchange @pthane@toot.wales @HI_Greens@mastodon.scot where I live, UPS, LITERALLY, drops their packages AT the local Post Office, who then deliver said package, for them. How is that "better".

@passwordsarehard4@mastodon.social @gary_alderson@infosec.exchange @pthane@toot.wales @HI_Greens@mastodon.scot Yeah, the fact that for-profit shipping companies often find it cheaper to hand the package off to the post office instead of finishing the job themselves does make you wonder. Of course as private companies they also have the option of deciding some delivery areas aren't worth the cost and just not ship there at all, which isn't an option for the USPS as a public service.
