I would suggest starting at https://meshmap.net/ to see what other nodes are around. Of course they won't all be listed.
Install the Meshtastic app on your phone, tablet or computer. Check that your device has the latest firmware version.
Then configure it.
https://meshtastic.org/ has detailed instructions.
