Guess I will just use well oiled birch plywood for aquarelle/gouache boards. Had hoped that I could find a less expensive option that is not painted MDF.

I found 9 mm poplar plywood in 830x600 mm sheets that I can cut into variously sized drawing boards and treat with linseed oil, looking like the most economic option.
